✿ Flower Recognition Moment ep 17 / Noble Fir

At the end of each year, the highly anticipated Christmas season arrives in December, and various types of coniferous foliage appear in the market to create Christmas wreaths and trees. Today’s spotlight is on the favorite foliage of Daisy Academy for Christmas trees and wreaths, known as “noble fir.”

The noble fir, formally known as Abies procera, belongs to the Pinaceae family, the fir genus, and is native to North America.

The noble fir has a multi-branched tree structure, resembling chubby fingers branching out in all directions, adorned with fine needles that emit a delicate and fresh pine resin fragrance.

In many European and American countries, people often cut down a complete fir or spruce tree to bring home as their Christmas tree. Regarding the origin of placing Christmas trees during the Christmas season, there is a legend from the 16th century Germany:

It is said that during the 16th century, the Protestant reformer Martin Luther brought an evergreen tree, symbolizing the eternal life of Jesus, into his home. He attached lit candles on top, reminiscent of the guiding star of the Magi, leading them to the birthplace of Jesus in Bethlehem. This tradition later evolved to include placing a golden star, symbolizing the Star of Bethlehem, at the top of the Christmas tree.

Today, the Christmas tree has become an indispensable and classic symbol of the Christmas holiday. Christmas decorations made from noble fir not only replicate the original coniferous appearance but also emanate a pleasant pine resin fragrance. During the Christmas Eve gathering of family and friends, surrounded by the delightful festive atmosphere, the companionship of noble fir creates an opportunity to reflect on gratitude for the past year and look forward to supporting each other in the coming year.

▌When using noble fir to create floral arrangements, repeated removal of leaves may cause natural pine resin to adhere to your fingertips, resulting in darkened skin. It is recommended to wipe your hands with alcohol and then wash them with soap to easily remove the resin and thoroughly clean your hands.
