白胖胖的可愛棉花，是許多花藝設計師在冬季設計花藝作品時愛用的花材之一，也是聖誕節期各式聖誕作品經常被選用的裝飾材料。
棉花，學名Gossypium herbaceum，屬於錦葵科，棉花屬，原產於熱帶亞洲。
棉花最早種植於印度河流域文明，會開出像朱槿花型的花朵，爾後結出的果實，會以白色的團狀棉絮包覆著種子，人類早在公元元年前便會使用棉花製成織品，是歷史相當悠久的一種植物。當歐洲人透過與阿拉伯商人貿易獲得來自亞洲的棉花織品，因為在歐洲習慣取羊毛作為原料，當他們得知棉花的棉絮來自棉花樹，便認為棉花是一種樹上生出的羊，因此德文的棉花Baumwolle意思是「樹羊毛」。
棉花除了作為人類重要的織品原料、各式棉被、抱枕娃娃等紡織品的填充物，在聖誕節的佈置當中，棉花也是不可或缺的元素。潔白柔軟的棉絮，有著四瓣或五瓣的團絮造型，帶給人飽滿的豐厚感，一支木頭色的枝桿上掛著朵朵成串的棉花花鈴，如同團團雪球一般，在聖誕節的經典配色，紅、綠、白，似雪的棉花點綴出冬日氛圍裡的輕盈與美好。
乾燥後的棉花不會凋謝，可持續陪伴在你我的身邊，棉花的花語是「珍惜身邊的人」，輕盈純白的棉花，象徵人們對未來的盼望，以及對遠方摯愛的想念。

The cute and fluffy white cotton is one of the favorite floral materials for many floral designers when creating floral arrangements in winter. It is also a commonly chosen decorative material for various Christmas creations during the Christmas season.
Cotton, scientifically known as Gossypium herbaceum, belongs to the Malvaceae family and the cotton genus. It is originally native to tropical Asia.
Cotton was first cultivated in the civilization of the Indus River Valley and produced flowers resembling hibiscus. The subsequent fruits would be enveloped in white, cottony fibers containing seeds. Humans have been using cotton to make textiles since well before the first century, making it a plant with a long history. When Europeans obtained cotton textiles through trade with Arab merchants, who brought them from Asia, they were accustomed to using wool as a raw material. Learning that cotton fibers came from cotton plants, they considered cotton to be a kind of wool growing on trees. Therefore, the German word for cotton, “Baumwolle,” means “tree wool.”
Apart from being a crucial raw material for human textiles, such as various cotton fabrics, quilts, and stuffed toys, cotton is also an indispensable element in Christmas decorations. The pure and soft cotton fibers, with their four or five-petaled clustered appearance, provide a rich and full feeling. Cotton flowers strung together on a wooden-colored stem, resembling snowballs, contribute to the classic Christmas color palette of red, green, and white. The snowy cotton adds a light and beautiful touch to the winter atmosphere during Christmas.
Dried cotton does not wither, offering a lasting presence. The floral language of cotton is “cherish those around you.” The airy and pure white cotton symbolizes people’s hope for the future and their longing for loved ones who are far away.
