海芋，學名Zantedeschia aethiopica，屬於天南星科，馬蹄蓮屬，原產於熱帶美洲，圖中品種為深紫色火鶴。
海芋又稱為馬蹄蓮，因其佛焰苞片倒過來的形狀如同馬蹄；每年到了三、四月的季節，陽明山竹子湖與台中大埔的海芋田會開放參觀，可以欣賞到一整片直挺盛開的海芋。
與火鶴同科的海芋，真正的花也是隱藏在中間的肉穗花序上，外圍觀賞的部分稱作「佛焰苞片」；實際走訪花市或花店購買海芋時，建議選擇已經打開一半以上的佛焰苞，苞片無斑點或變色，且無乾扁的情形，花莖翠綠無腐敗，花腳不軟爛，以上特點會是花況健康的海芋狀態。
海芋的特色，帶有線條感的花莖與長條形的各色苞片，在花藝作品中適合用來延伸線條，或是常見使用於古典花型中，作為建構基底花型輪廓來使用。例如古典赫加斯花型的S型線條，有天然曲線的海芋就非常適合作為勾勒S型曲線的花材，有興趣可到YouTube搜尋「小雛菊花藝學校 ep33」的古典赫加斯花型教學影片，可參考吳妮晏老師以海芋應用在古典花型的示範。
⭔ 小提醒：
海芋的花莖較為脆弱，若要插上整束的海芋需要注意花莖彼此不互相擠壓，以直立花腳擺放即可，另外瓶插的海芋水分充足，花腳平剪即可，且水位不須過高，大約在5公分左右為佳。

✿ Flower Recognition Moment ep 27 / Calla Lily
Calla lily, scientifically known as Zantedeschia aethiopica, belongs to the family Araceae and the genus Zantedeschia. It is originally from tropical America. The one shown in the picture is the deep purple calla lily.
Calla lily is also known as horseshoe lotus, named after its unique shape resembling an inverted horseshoe. During the months of March and April, the calla lily fields in Zhuzi Lake Yangmingshan, and Dapu, Taichung, are open for visitors. This is the time when the calla lilies are in full bloom, creating a picturesque sight.
Similar to the flamingo flower, the true flowers of the calla lily are hidden within the central spadix, and the showy part on the outside is called the spathe. When selecting calla lilies in flower markets or flower shops, it’s advised to choose spathes that are more than halfway open, without spots or discoloration, and not dried or withered. The flower stem should be vibrant green without signs of decay, and the root of the stem should be healthy and not soft or rotten.
The distinctive feature of calla lilies lies in their linear stems and elongated colorful bracts, which are suitable for extending lines in floral art pieces or commonly used in classical floral patterns as the foundational outline. For example, in the classical Hogarth flower pattern, the S-shaped lines are naturally suited for outlining with the naturally curved calla lilies. ⭔ Reminder:
Calla lily stems are relatively fragile. If you intend to arrange a whole bunch of calla lilies, be careful not to crush the stems against each other. Simply place them upright. Also, ensure that the calla lilies in vase arrangements have sufficient water, trim the stems evenly, and maintain the water level not too high, ideally around 5 centimeters.
