康乃馨，學名Dianthus caryophyllus，屬於石竹科，石竹屬，原產於南歐及西亞。圖中品種為杏粉色美國進口大康乃馨。
康乃馨象徵母親永恆且無私的愛，因此我們經常在母親節這一天送媽媽康乃馨，表達我們對媽媽的愛與祝福。
美國母親節的創始人安娜·賈維斯 (Anna Jarvis) 以「康乃馨」來悼念她一生致力於推廣公共衛生的母親，因為康乃馨是安娜母親生前最喜愛的花；而後安娜提倡創立一個專屬於母親的節日，母親節就此誕生，而康乃馨也成為母親節的代表花卉。
與其他花種相比，康乃馨的賞花期限較長，以小雛菊花藝學校實際實驗的結果統計，在夏天時的賞花期限約9-12天，冬天最高紀錄為一個月，花期長的特性，如同母親一般，堅毅、勇敢、不畏風雨仍然屹立不搖。
現今康乃馨品種多樣化，以花朵尺寸分為大康乃馨與中康乃馨，以台北花市為例，大康乃馨主要以美國與越南進口，花朵型態為一支花莖與一朵大花，中康乃馨主要為台灣在地花農種植，花朵型態一支花莖有多分岔、多朵小花。
康乃馨在花卉市場上供貨穩定，一年四季都有它的蹤影，顏色有紅色、粉色、杏粉色、深紫色、黃色等，無論是居家瓶或是作為花藝創作都非常適合，受到大眾喜愛。

屬於石竹科的康乃馨，其花莖上的節點易折損，建議拿取時需特別小心；另外，如果遇到含苞的康乃馨，可試著輕輕搓揉其花瓣下方的肥厚花托處，一搓一轉的手勢重複3-4次，有助於康乃馨的花型綻放。

Large carnation imported from the United States
Carnation, scientific name Dianthus caryophyllus, belongs to Caryophyllaceae, Dianthus genus, and is native to Southern Europe and West Asia. The one shown in the picture is apricot carnation imported from the United States.
Carnations symbolize a mother’s eternal and selfless love, which is why we often give carnations to our mothers on Mother’s Day to express our love and blessings.
The founder of Mother’s Day in the United States, Anna Jarvis, chose “carnations” to commemorate her mother, who dedicated her life to promoting public health, for carnations were her mother’s favorite flower. Anna advocated for the creation of a holiday dedicated to mothers, and thus Mother’s Day was born, with carnations becoming the representative flower of the occasion.
Compared to other flower varieties, carnations have a longer blooming period. According to statistics from Daisy Academy, the blooming period in summer is approximately 9-12 days, and with the longest record of one month in winter. This characteristic of a longer blooming period, much resembles a mother, signifies resilience, courage, and standing strong in the face of adversity.
Today, there is a wide variety of carnation breeds. In Taipei Flower Market, for example, large carnations are mainly imported from the United States and Vietnam, characterized by a single stem and a large flower. Medium carnations are primarily grown by local Taiwanese flower farmers and feature a single stem with multiple branches and small flowers.
Carnations are readily available in the flower market throughout the year, coming in various colors such as red, pink, peach, deep purple, and yellow. They are suitable for both home decoration and floral arrangements, making them a favorite among the public.
🌱 Reminder:
Carnations belong to the Caryophyllaceae family, and the nodes on their stems are prone to breakage. It is advisable to handle them with care. Additionally, if you come across closed carnation buds, you can gently rub the thickened receptacle below the petals with a twisting motion, repeating the gesture 3-4 times. This helps the carnation bloom beautifully.
